9:30 AM
There are two movies coming out this weekend that are very different. They also make a great double feature because of how different they are.
At last, it’s time for Barbenheimer
10:15 AM
I’m starting my day off with Oppenheimer. I’m a big fan of Nolan so I’m really curious about this movie. Plus there’s the appeal of a story of the American development of nuclear weapons presented by a non-American. Should be interesting. Should be devastating.
10:42 AM
In the theater. Waiting for Oppenheimer to start. Let’s frickin go.
1:50 PM
Holy shit.
2:30 PM
So. Yeah. it’s an excellent movie. Superbly done. I’m struck by how it portrays its events as a tragedy. Any rah-rah is tempered by the question of whether what they’re doing should be done. There’s no easy answer to it and, wisely, Oppenheimer doesn’t offer any.
Could this be a step towards the US recognizing the horrors of dropping nuclear bombs on Japan? One can hope!
3:20 PM
Getting a double shot of espresso. I need the caffeine.
3:40 PM
In the theatre for Barbie. Let’s go!
5:45 PM
Well, Barbie was delightful. It’s funny and does enough to differentiate itself from The LEGO Movie (against which it will invite inevitable comparisons). Also Ryan Gosling’s Ken is a delight.
9:00 PM
Man. That was a day at the movies. Gotta say, the double feature does work, very much so because of how wildly different and well executed they are. I’m sure I’ll have more thoughts about these movies as they percolate in my head, but for now, it’s fair to say that stuff like this is why I love going to the movies.
